Cyber Body Doubling.

Body doubling is simple: you work on your own task while other people work on theirs, in the same room or the same call. Nobody has to help you. Their being there is what helps. We run it once a month for our community, and it is free.

Community members working alongside each other at a Hacking the Workforce session

What a session looks like

Two hours. One task you pick. People who get it.

0:00 · Check in

Say what you are working on today, in one sentence. A certification chapter, a resume, a lab, a job application, a homework sheet. Anything counts.

0:10 · Focus block

Fifty minutes of quiet work with cameras optional and mics muted. A host keeps time so you do not have to watch the clock.

1:00 · Break and lesson

Ten minutes to stretch, then a short lesson from the host, lately one of the 4 Cs of digital self-defense.

1:20 · Second block

Another focused stretch. If you got stuck in the first block, a host or another member can pair with you in a breakout.

1:50 · Wins

Everyone names one thing that moved. Small counts. Then the floor opens for questions, introductions, and job leads.

After

You get a recap email with the lesson and the next date. Nothing else; we do not add you to anything you did not ask for.

Why we built it this way

Around one in five people is neurodivergent. We plan for that.

Neurodivergence covers a wide range of minds, including autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. Our sessions treat those differences as assets rather than limits. The structure does the work that willpower is usually asked to do: a fixed start, a timer someone else watches, a place to say your goal out loud, and people around you who are doing the same thing.

It is the same idea behind the Alcorn Method we use in tutoring: put the plan on the page, make the next step small, and let the environment hold the focus.

House rules

Cameras optional, always. Mics muted during focus blocks. No recording. No pitching. First names are enough. If you need captions, say so when you sign up and we turn them on. Leave early if you need to; nobody will ask why.

Who it is for

Anyone in the Hacking the Workforce community: ACCESS Granted apprentices, coaching clients, tutoring learners, interns, volunteers, and anyone studying for a certification or a career change. Students and parents are welcome. You do not need to be in a program to come.

Sign up once

Get the date and the link, every month.

One email before each session with the Zoom link and the lesson topic, and a recap after. Reply to any of them to tell us what you are working on; the host uses that to plan the lesson.

Sessions run monthly, online, in the evening Eastern time. Free.

How you can help

Keep study hall free.

A study hall costs a host's evening, a Zoom seat, and captions. Donors cover it so the session stays free.
