Effective November 1, 2026. What we collect on this site, why, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language on purpose.
Hacking the Workforce, Inc. (“HtW,” “we,” “us”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 86-1194079. This policy explains what we collect on hackingtheworkforce.org, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
Information you give us. When you fill out a form (welcome form, coaching intake, partner inquiry, waitlist, event registration, Clinic request), we collect what you type: usually your name, email, organization, and the reason you reached out. When you donate, our donation processor collects your name, email, billing details, and gift amount. When you buy merchandise, our store partner collects your shipping and payment details. When you email us, we keep the email.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, ours records basic technical data when you visit: the page requested, the type of device and browser, approximate location from your IP address, and the site that referred you. This comes from our hosting provider's standard server logs. This site sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
What we do not collect. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this website. Our youth programs collect information from parents, guardians, and partner organizations, not from children directly. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
How we use it
We use your information to answer you, deliver the program or service you asked about, send you updates you opted into, process donations and send receipts, fulfill merchandise orders, and understand which pages help people so we can improve the site. We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers.
Who else sees it
We use a small number of service providers who handle data on our behalf and are bound to protect it:
- Amazon Web Services hosts this website and keeps standard server logs.
- FG Funnels powers our forms, calendars, and email. When you submit a form, your answers go to our FG Funnels account.
- Zeffy processes donations. Zeffy, not HtW, holds your card details. Zeffy's own privacy policy applies to the payment step.
- Our merchandise store partner fulfills orders and holds your shipping and payment details for those orders.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a person or the integrity of our programs.
If you join a list, every email we send has an unsubscribe link. Program emails (session reminders, intake follow-ups) continue while you are in that program; reply to any of them to stop.
Quick exit and clearing your history
Some visitors come to us from unsafe situations. The Quick exit button at the top of every page, or pressing Escape twice, opens a neutral weather website in place of this one. It does not erase your browsing history. To do that:
- Chrome: Menu, History, Clear browsing data, pick a time range, tick Browsing history, Clear data. On a phone: Menu, History, Clear browsing data.
- Safari (iPhone or iPad): Settings, Apps, Safari, Clear History and Website Data. On a Mac: Safari menu, Clear History.
- Firefox: Menu, History, Clear recent history, choose the range.
- Edge: Menu, History, Clear browsing data.
If someone monitors your device, clearing history may itself be noticed. A library computer, a trusted friend's phone, or a private browsing window that you close afterward are safer ways to read this site. If you are in danger, call 911 or your local emergency number.
How long we keep it
Form submissions and program records: for as long as you are in a program and for up to three years after, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. Donation records: seven years, because nonprofit accounting and tax rules require it. Server logs: 90 days. Site statistics: in aggregate, indefinitely; they are not tied to you by name.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (except records the law requires us to keep). Email hello@hackingtheworkforce.org with the subject line “Privacy request” and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in a jurisdiction that gives you additional rights (for example California or the European Union), those rights apply and we will honor them.
Security
We are a security organization and we practice what we teach: multi-factor authentication on every account that touches your data, least-privilege access for staff and volunteers, and no personal data pasted into AI tools or other services we have not approved. No system is perfect. If we ever have a breach that affects you, we will tell you.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it. Material changes get a notice on this page for 30 days.
